We all know the feeling of an amazing early morning run. Whether it is through the neighborhood or through the tranquil woods, there is nothing quite like it. Ice therapy, (also known as cryotherapy or cold therapy) has been an accepted treatment for acute injuries and post-exercise recovery for over 30 years.

 WHAT IS ICE THERAPY?

While we have all tried icing a specific region after an injury, ice therapy takes treatment to the next level. Cold therapy reduces localized inflammation from exercise and injuries by reducing edema. By immersing our entire body in ice, about an hour after a run, ice therapy will aid in the initial inflammatory response of the human body. This inflammation is a natural recovery process, but if left untreated, the result will be an increase in stiffness and soreness. After running, our bodies levels of pro-inflammatory proteins (cytokines) are elevated and greatly outnumber our Anti-inflammatory proteins and this causes joint stiffness and muscle soreness as a result (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness – DOMS).

After removing the lid, you’ll enter from the top and settle into a comfortable position. Depending on where you have your Ice Barrel, you can use a step stool or ladder, but use it at your own risk. We recommend always having another person present while you are in the Ice Barrel for your safety. You might experience numbness after an ice bath, which can make it hard to get out of the barrel by yourself.

In summary, cold water therapy is a fast, easy, and natural way to reset your body and mind!
